Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center
Established by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services in 1965. Focuses on ecological research and monitoring of the entire flora and fauna of the nations's northern and central grasslands. Pictures, descriptions and distribution maps are widely available for the reptiles and amphibians on this web site.

U.S. Naval Observatory Astronomical Applications Department
Provides the sun or moon rise/set table for one year for a specific geographical location. Also gives the phases of the moon for several years.

UNIVERSITIES

AmphibiaWeb
A new on-line database of amphibian biology and conservation, is up and hopping. Developed by David Wake, curator of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at the University of California at Berkeley, with the help of several graduate students, the database contains accounts of 137 species and eventually will provide information "for every species of amphibian in the world." Species accounts include descriptions, photos, life history, conservation status and references. The site offers a section on worldwide amphibian decline and information on how to contribute information to the database.

Contemporary Herpetology
Founded in 1997 at Southeastern Louisiana University, Contemporary Herpetology is a peer-reviewed, on-line scientific journal devoted to the global dissemination of scientific information on amphibians, turtles, crocodillians and reptiles.

Herps of Southern California
The Loyola Marymount University of Los Angeles Biology Department has developed a "multimedia textbook" of southern California natural history including the reptiles and amphibians in the area in addition to geography, climate, flora and fauna of the region.

Herps of Texas
This project funded by the Texas Memorial Museum and the University of Texas at Austin lists the herps of Texas with photos, descriptions and range maps by county.

Illinois Natural History Survey
Developed by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign this site features information on the biodiversity, entomology, aquatic ecology and wildlife ecology of Illinois. The amphibian and reptile field guide notes sitings, range map with some photos and provides the status (endangered, threatened or on the watch list) of the state's herps.

James Cook University Zoology Department Northern Queensland, Australia
A website to disseminate information on research into the nature and causes of amphibian declines in Australia. Included are descriptions, photos and status on missing and declining frogs.

ORGANIZATIONS AND SOCIETIES

California Turtle & Tortoise Club
This web site has everything turtle and tortoise including .wav files of tortoise calls. The CTTC web site contains a comprehensive list of links to sites dealing with turtle anatomy, physiology, conservation, ecology, fossils, evolution and taxonomy.
 
Calusa Herpetological Society
This herp society is located in Fort Myers, Florida.  The general meetings are on the first Thursday of every month at the Calusa Nature Center at 7:00 p.m.
Center for North American Amphibians & Reptiles
This organization promotes education and conservation of amphibians, turtles, reptiles and crocodilians in the United States and Canada and serves as a data bank for herps of North America. Some features include an online directory of herpetologists, the standard common and current scientific names for North American amphibians & reptiles and links to internet articles and Contemporary Herpetology.

Central Illinois Herpetological Society

The Champaign Area Society of Herpetoculturists (C.A.S.H.)
This herp society is located in the Champaign-Urbana Illinois area and holds monthly meetings the last Sunday of the month.

Chelonian Research Foundation
This organization publishes the only international scientific peer-reviewed journal of cosmopolitan and broad-based coverage of all aspects of conservation and biology of all chelonians, including freshwater turtles, marine turtles, and tortoises. In addition, the Turtle and Tortoise Newsletter is available online at this website.

Chicago Turtle Club
A club for turtle enthusiasts based in the Chicago area. Meetings are family friendly and animals are always welcome.

Colorado Herpetological Society
Contains a guide to the reptiles and amphibians of Colorada with dichotomous keys to the native herp species. The CHS has also put their newsletter the Cold-Blooded News on their website.

Conservation Project of the Utila Iguana (Ctenosaura bakeri)
This is a joint project of the Frankfurt Zoological Society (ZGF) and the Senckenberg Nature Research Society (SNG). The site outlines the current status of these lizards on the island, the project objectives and what is being done to help this species.

Crocodilians - Natural History and Conservation
Hosted by the Crocodile Specialist Group, this site provides detailed source information on all 23 crocodilian species, including distribution maps and pictures.

International Conservation Fund for the Fijian Crested Iguana
This site is dedicated to the recently discovered Fijian Crested Iguana, an extremely endangered lizard. It's goals are conservation, captive breeding, public awareness and education of this beautiful animal. The pictures on this site are quite beautiful.
Nebraska Herpetological Society
This site is the official site of the Nebraska Herpetological Society.  They are hosting the 2003 Midwest Herpetological Symposium.  This is the first time Nebraska will be hosting this event.

 IUCN SSC West Indian Iguana Specialist Group

        The Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita Kansas does a great job providing information on all the West Indian iguanas. There are beautiful pictures of each species accompanied by information outlining threats to their survival and current conservation activities.


Tucson Herpetological Society
This site has informative brochures, selected articles from their publication the Sonoran Herpetologist and even a coloring book for children. The 100 Mile Circle is an illustrated checklist of the species of reptiles and amphibians found within 50 miles from the center of Tucson.

Wisconsin Herpetology Homepage
Brought to you by the scientists at the Milwaukee Public Museum, the Wisconsin Herpetological Atlas Project gives species accounts with description, status in Wisconsin, range map and some photos.

Wisconsin National Iguana Awareness Day organization
The National Iguana Awareness Day Wisconsin Chapter educates people on responsible iguana ownership and provides information on adoptions and iguana care. If you own or plan to acquire an iguana this is a good place to visit.

Melissa Kaplan's Care Sheets
